Seven days training programme entitled “Entrepreneurship Development
of Tribal Farmers through Integrated Farming Systems in Meghalaya” was organized at ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region,
Meghalaya during 24th Feb- 2nd March, 2025 as a part of the project ‘Development of Watershed based Integrated Farming
Systems (IFS) for sustainable livelihood of tribal farmers of Meghalaya’ under Tribal Sub Plan (TSP) project. A total of
31 farmers (11 males and 20 females) from Umsarang, Nongtraw and Lumdiengan villages of Ri-Bhoi district participated in
this training programme. The programme was organized with the aim to sensitize the tribal farming community on agri-entrepreneurship
through development of sustainable farming systems for enhancing their income and livelihood. Dr.V.K.Mishra, Director of
this institute, Dr. S. Hazarika, Head DSRE & Nodal Officer, TSP, Dr.Mokidul Islam, Head KVK Ri-Bhoi graced the inaugural
programme and addressed the gathering.
During this training programme, different sessions, both theory and practical,
related to IFS and its components including agroforestry, livestock, fisheries, mushroom, bee-keeping, natural farming, soil
management and water conservation measures, farm tools and implements, government schemes for empowering farmers etc. were
conducted. Experts from ICAR- Dr. S.Patra, Dr. Krishnappa R., Dr. T.R. Borah, Dr. B.Makdoh, Dr. N.Singh delivered lectures
during the programme, along with lectures by the coordinators. Mr. Raymond Lyngdoh, Market and Value Chain expert,
Palladium Consulting India Pvt. Ltd. delivered an invited lecture to make the farmers aware on value-chain system for
efficient agricultural marketing. The seven days training programme was coordinated by a group of scientists from various
disciplines -Dr. Ramesh T, Dr. C.B.K.Sangma, Dr. H.D. Talang, Dr. A. Balusamy, Dr. M. Prabha, Dr. Y.Bijen, Dr. N. Raju,
Dr. S. Gojendro, Dr. R. Katiyar, Dr. A.Yumnum and Dr.M.Chakraborty.
